Bill Detail
An Act to establish a national framework on food allergy
This enactment provides for the development of a national framework on food allergy.
This bill proposes to create a national framework to address the growing public health issue of food allergies in Canada. It acknowledges that food allergies affect millions of Canadians, including many children, and create significant daily challenges for those affected. The framework aims to develop strategies for reducing the incidence and risks associated with food allergies.
The framework will involve measures such as improving access to timely diagnoses and care, promoting evidence-based prevention methods like early allergen introduction, ensuring availability of essential medications like epinephrine, and enhancing public awareness. It also calls for better ingredient information and support for research. The Minister of Health will lead this initiative, consulting with various stakeholders including provincial/territorial governments, Indigenous bodies, healthcare professionals, and patient groups, and will be advised by a dedicated advisory board.
