Bill Detail
An Act to amend the Canada Health Act
This enactment amends the Canada Health Act to add to the requirements that a province must meet in order to qualify for a full cash contribution the criterion of accountability in relation to the timely delivery of health services. It also provides for the referral of certain defaults to arbitration for determination.
This bill, if passed, would amend the Canada Health Act to add a new requirement for provinces seeking full federal cash contributions for health services. Provinces would need to demonstrate accountability in ensuring timely delivery of insured health services, meeting reasonable care standards. This includes allowing legal action against the province for delays and permitting patients to get care outside the provincial plan if access is unreasonable.
