An Act respecting the Office of the Commissioner for Young Persons in Canada
This enactment provides for the establishment of the Office of the Commissioner for Young Persons in Canada. It also makes consequential amendments to other Acts.
Bill C-441 proposes to create a new federal office: the Office of the Commissioner for Young Persons in Canada. This Commissioner, who would be appointed through a rigorous process involving consultation with parliamentary leaders, would be responsible for promoting and protecting the rights of young people in Canada, particularly those under 24 years old. The office's mandate includes ensuring that the best interests of young persons are considered in decisions affecting them, aligning with Canada's international commitments and addressing historical injustices, especially for Indigenous youth.
