An Act respecting the development of a national strategy in relation to freshwater
This enactment provides for the development of a national strategy in relation to freshwater.
Bill C-439 proposes the creation of a national strategy for the conservation, protection, and use of freshwater across Canada. The Minister of the Environment would be responsible for developing this strategy in collaboration with various stakeholders, including provincial and municipal governments, Indigenous groups, scientists, and environmental organizations.
The strategy would address key issues such as drinking water standards, international water agreements, infrastructure in light of climate change, reducing lake eutrophication, protecting biodiversity, and understanding groundwater. The Minister must table a report on the strategy in Parliament within two years, and a review of the strategy is required within five years.
