An Act to establish Rare Disease Day
This enactment designates the last day in February in each year as Rare Disease Day.
Bill C-435 proposes to establish the last day of February each year as Rare Disease Day in Canada. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the over 7,000 rare diseases that affect millions of Canadians, particularly children. Many individuals with rare diseases face significant challenges in accessing treatments, with only one in three Canadians able to get the care they need.
The bill's purpose is to mobilize governments, health professionals, and researchers to increase funding for rare disease research, develop new treatments, and improve therapies. By designating a national Rare Disease Day, the aim is to strengthen community support and rally resources for those living with these often-debilitating conditions.
