Bill Detail
An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (natural health products)
This enactment amends the Food and Drugs Act to provide that natural health products are not therapeutic products within the meaning of that Act and therefore not subject to the same monitoring regime as other drugs.
This bill aims to change how natural health products are regulated in Canada. Currently, under the Food and Drugs Act, natural health products are treated as therapeutic products, meaning they are subject to the same strict monitoring as conventional drugs. Bill C-368 proposes to exempt natural health products from being defined as therapeutic products. This would mean they would no longer fall under the same rigorous oversight, potentially simplifying the regulatory process for these items. This change would affect manufacturers, distributors, and consumers of natural health products, as well as the regulatory bodies overseeing them.
