Bill Detail
An Act to enact the Canada Pharmacare Act
This enactment enacts the Canada Pharmacare Act, which establishes criteria and conditions in respect of drug insurance plans established under the law of a province that must be met before a cash contribution may be made.
Bill C-340, if passed, would create the Canada Pharmacare Act. This act would set national standards for provincial drug insurance plans to receive federal funding. These standards include public administration, comprehensiveness (covering all prescribed drugs and dispensing fees), universality (covering all residents), portability (ensuring coverage when moving between provinces or travelling), and accessibility (ensuring no undue financial barriers for patients).
This bill aims to ensure Canadians have access to prescription drugs without financial barriers. It affects provinces by outlining the conditions their drug insurance plans must meet to qualify for federal cash contributions, thereby influencing how these plans are designed and operated nationwide. Canadians would benefit from more uniform and accessible prescription drug coverage across the country.
