An Act to establish the Financial Crimes Agency and to make consequential amendments to certain Acts and regulations
This enactment establishes the Financial Crimes Agency as a specialized federal law enforcement agency whose mandate is to investigate financial crimes and to contribute to the recovery of proceeds of crime. It also makes consequential amendments to certain Acts and regulations.
Bill C-29 proposes the creation of a new federal agency called the Financial Crimes Agency. This agency will specialize in investigating serious and complex financial crimes, including those involving digital assets, money laundering, and activities that could harm Canada's economy or financial system. Its mandate also includes working to recover proceeds from criminal activities and cooperating internationally. The Agency will be headed by a Commissioner appointed by the Governor in Council and will have powers similar to other law enforcement bodies.
