Bill Detail
An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (disclosure of information to victims)
This enactment repeals paragraph 207(4)(b) of the Criminal Code to make it lawful for the government of a province, or a person or entity licensed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council of that province, to conduct and manage a lottery scheme in the province that involves betting on a race or fight or on a single sport event or athletic contest.
Bill C-221 aims to make the Corrections and Conditional Release Act more transparent for victims of crime. It requires that when offenders' eligibility and review dates for temporary absences, work releases, or parole are shared with victims, the explanation must also include how these dates were calculated. This ensures victims have a clearer understanding of the timeline for an offender's potential release or absence.
