This bill proposes to officially recognize February 5th of each year as National Thanadelthur Day across Canada. Thanadelthur was a young Indigenous woman from the Denesuline nation who played a vital role in brokering peace between the Denesuline and Cree peoples in the early 1700s. Her efforts not only helped end a long-standing conflict, aggravated by the fur trade, but also facilitated the expansion of trade for the Hudson's Bay Company. Her story highlights the bravery, negotiation skills, and significant contributions of Indigenous women in Canadian history.
