Bill Detail
An Act to restrict young persons’ online access to pornographic material
This enactment makes it an offence for organizations to make pornographic material available to young persons on the Internet. It also enables a designated enforcement authority to take steps to prevent pornographic material from being made available to young persons on the Internet in Canada.
Bill S-209, also known as the Protecting Young Persons from Exposure to Pornography Act, aims to make it illegal for organizations to provide pornographic material to individuals under 18 years of age via the internet. It recognizes the potential harms of early exposure to pornography, such as addiction and the reinforcement of harmful stereotypes, and addresses the public health and safety concerns associated with easy online access. The bill enables a designated enforcement authority to take action to prevent such material from being made available to minors in Canada.
