Bill Detail
An act to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Food and Drugs Act
This enactment amends the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Food and Drugs Act to allow psilocin and psilocybin to be used for medical treatment in accordance with the Narcotic Control Regulations. It also provides for the automatic approval of requests for priority review for certain new drugs.
This bill proposes to change Canadian laws so that psilocin and psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms, can be used for medical treatments. Currently, these substances are illegal. The bill aims to make it easier for doctors to prescribe them for therapeutic purposes, but it's important to note it doesn't bypass the regular drug approval process. It also includes a provision to speed up the review process for certain new drugs.
This affects patients who might benefit from psilocybin-assisted therapy, as well as healthcare professionals who would be able to administer it. Additionally, pharmaceutical companies developing certain new drugs could see their approval process expedited. The bill is currently in its early stages and has not yet been scheduled for debate in Parliament.
