Bill Detail
An Act to establish a national framework respecting skilled trades and labour mobility
This enactment provides for the development of a national framework for the recognition of skilled trades, harmonization of credential recognition and mobility of skilled trades workers in Canada.
Bill C-266 aims to create a national plan to make it easier for skilled trades workers to move and work across Canada. Currently, different rules in each province and territory can create barriers for these workers. This bill proposes to recognize and harmonize trade certifications nationwide, making it simpler for tradespeople to get their qualifications accepted in a new province.
This initiative is expected to benefit the Canadian economy by improving productivity, supporting infrastructure projects like housing and transportation, and boosting competitiveness. It affects skilled trades workers by aiming to reduce red tape, as well as provincial and territorial governments who will need to cooperate in developing and implementing the new framework. The Minister of Employment and Social Development will lead this effort, consulting widely with various stakeholders.
